It is crucial to regularly pay attention to your pool water’s chemistry, and whether or not there are metals in the water, for a variety of reasons, especially considering Chester and Long Valley’s geographical history!
Rin Robyn’s Chester location is located near several old iron mines. As a matter of fact, 150 years ago there were about 2 dozen iron mines operating along Main Street in Chester! Even today, metals such as iron and copper are naturally present in source water in our area. One of the last things any pool owner needs to deal with is what is referred to as an “Iron Laden Pool” or some other unexpected costly issue, when you would much rather be enjoying your clean pool during the summer season!
Before shocking your pool after a fresh fill or top up, it is important to test the water. If there is metal in the water, shocking the pool can reveal it – and also be shocking to the pool owner!
Copper in the water will turn the pool clear green, like a cup of Chinese tea. Iron in the water will turn the pool brown, like a cup of coffee without milk. This photo was sent to us by a customer who experienced just that last week!
Proper preventative measures should be taken to avoid the possibility of discoloration and surface staining caused by metals.
Pool Magnet Plus and Sparkle Up should be used together to keep your pool free of heavy metals. Pool Magnet Plus works by trapping metals (by a process called chelation) in the water so they may be removed through the pool’s filtration system, allowing for swimming 15-30 minutes after application. Remember to follow through by adding Sparkle Up, and you MUST be sure to backwash your pool within 24 hours.
